International TESL Program
Description:
The international TESL program is jointly developed by Canada
Phoenix Education Group and Surrey School District, BC.
This Professional Development Program is designed for international
teachers who are already teaching English as a foreign language. The
program can be completed in one-month modules locally or abroad over
an extended period of time or in three months in Surrey, B.C.,
Canada. The program provides intensive and interactive sessions on
site in classrooms within schools in the Surrey School District or
may be delivered partially in the local school district and at least
the last month in the Surrey School District to provide opportunity
for the required practicum.
The program modules are:
1st month – A critical look
a language acquisition and focus on current practices
2nd month – A basis for language
instruction and focus on classroom connections
3rd month – An integrative perspective and
focus on integration and application of principles
On-Site Classroom:
The course will provide international teachers with innovative ideas
and strategies to implement in their English classrooms. Based on
the most current practices, the course will help teachers develop
useful and engaging lesson plans for use with their students – at
the same time, improving their own English language fluency through
co-operative learning.
School Observations:
As a part of the program, international teacher-participants will
have opportunities to observe the actual classes and assist students
under the direction of the classroom teacher.
Homestay:
International teachers will stay with Canadian families who will
help them improve their understanding of language and culture.
Certification:
The program can be one month in duration or a full TESL program of
three months. International teachers will be assessed and provided a
program that meets their needs.
Upon successful completion, international teachers will receive a
School District Certificate as well as a Surrey College Certificate
indicating their progress toward an International TESL Diploma:
